A sense of doom pervades his most involved stories: fierce bandits ('Gimme the Loot'), a hustler's beloved girlfriend ('Me & My Bitch'), and robbers out for 's newfound riches ('Warning') all die in hails of gunfire. The album is also sprinkled with reflections on the soul-draining bleakness of the streets -- 'Things Done Changed,' 'Ready to Die,' and 'Everyday Struggle' are powerfully affecting in their confusion and despair. Not everything is so dark, though; ' production collaborations result in some upbeat, commercial moments, and typically cop from recognizable hits: 's 'I Want You Back' on the graphic sex rap 'One More Chance,' 's 'Juicy Fruit' on the rags-to-riches chronicle 'Juicy,' and ' 'Between the Sheets' on the overweight-lover anthem 'Big Poppa.' Producer 's deliberate beats do get a little samey, but it hardly matters: this is 's show, and by the time 'Suicidal Thoughts' closes the album on a heartbreaking note, it's clear why he was so revered even prior to his death.
I have a confession to make.I never listened to to this album or Biggie when this came out. No reason why, just wasn't what I followed. Today by chance, I found a nice copy of this and put this on. What a joyous journey to be listening to this for the first time. I agree with Benny, the flow and track selection/arrangement is like reading a book. LP, completing the 'mini LP' that came out in 1994. I would strongly recommend getting this legit 2LP version, one of the very best HipHop LP's from the 90ties.
Ready To Die (O.G. Version) I saw that the original version of this album was hosted on the Archive, but not this one, which contains uncensored versions of some tracks, and some tracks with the original uncleared samples. 10 Crucial Facts About Biggie's 'Ready To Die'. The Grammy nominated single propelled the album into the stratosphere, and cemented B.I.G. And Puff’s legacy for all time. Biggie Smalls didn’t alter the hip-hop landscape so much as crater it, leaving behind an unfillable void and an unhealable wound. His double-album follow-up to Ready to Die was released two.
